Sunsar Waterfall at its lowest point |
A short trip to Sunsar Waterfall
Waterfalls have always been fascinating for me. Landscape and climate of Gujarat is such that there is not a single giant waterfall in Gujarat and those which are there are of very small height. Sunsar waterfall is one such small waterfall located near Bhiloda village in Aravalli district which is active only for a few days in monsoon that too only when there is significant rain in the catchment area around this region.
On August 31 this year, while returning from Polo forest to Modasa, I, along with my friends, visited Sunsar Waterfall.
I have provided details about how and when to visit this place to enjoy its beauty to maximum extent.
How to reach?
You can take Sanidhya road from Idar-Bhiloda road to reach the place. I would recommend to take two-wheeler if possible as during rainy season there are number of people traveling there and you may not find ample space to park your car nearby. (Though you can park it on main road-sideways) The best way to reach is by using google maps or GPPS (Gujarat Public Positioning system 😉; i.e. asking the nice and helpful local people around Bhiloda)
When to visit ?
Though you can visit it any day during monsoon when there is a significant amount of rain in the area, I would recommend you to confirm from some local person about the actual status at that time before visiting it.
If you are living nearby, you may already know the rainfall status and even if you don't, it's not a bad place to spend a wonderful evening if the pouring water quantity is not adequate. Even those who are already passing by can also try this option as it is merely 15-20 km from the main road (Idar-Bhiloda).
Those who are traveling from far can do one thing, they can either comment on google maps about the exact status, you may get answer from a local guide or someone who is already present there.
If you don't get any reply, you can try looking for the available photos on the google maps and sort it by clicking 'Latest Photos' button. You may even find some videos over there with date and time of uploading. Here, I would like to point it out that the date and time mentioned would be of uploading and not of the clicked date. This means that it may be possible that someone who visited it 5 days back when it was in its full beauty may have uploaded the photos later on. (Just like I'm writing this post long after the visit) In such scenario, you should get confirmation from multiple sources and act accordingly.
Date of visit: 31 August 2019

Travelogue:
There was no plan to visit Sunsar Waterfall when we started from Ahmedabad to Modasa or from Modasa to Polo forest. We started from Modasa to Polo forest in the morning and reached there in late afternoon because of a small excursion to an unnamed place on our way. We hadn't a pleasant stay at Polo due to hot climate that day and we left earlier than our scheduled time. While returning to Modasa, we thought to make a detour to Sunsar.
We were not hopeful about presence of ample amount of water there as it was almost empty just 4 days back. Yet we visited it and found that it had rained heavily since morning in the areas around Bhiloda and to our surprise, the waterfall was flowing with all its beauty. I can still remember the moment when we were walking towards it and nature was whispering the musical melody of falling water. It was enchanting. Rest was an evening full of fun and joy!
